Vision from the heart
Born in Versailles and living in Brittany, Tanguy de Lamotte learnt the ropes of sailing in Saint-Malo alongside his grandfather. A naval architect who studied at the prestigious University of Southampton, this "skipper of the heart" also has a good mind. But he's first and foremost an adventurer who likes to give his projects meaning. Aboard his red and white monohull Initiatives Cœur, he defends the colors of "Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque", a heart surgery charity, and helps to save the lives of children suffering from serious illnesses who can't be treated in their own countries. A firm favorite of the general public, and especially the young, the Lorient-based skipper is an outstanding communicator. Tenth in the 2013 Vendée Globe, his onboard videos have also gone global, for example when he played air guitar to Deep Purple at the stern of his boat in the tempestuous southern seas between the Roaring Forties and Furious Fifties. Impressive and totally nuts! Which was enough to convince the Belgian actor and comedian, François Damiens, to join him a few months later on the Transat Jacques Vabre. This unusual pairing finished an honorable eighth. Forced to abandon the Vendée Globe four years later, Tanguy de Lamotte, a determined, courageous and generous yachtsman continues to travel the seas, sharing his love of the ocean and his passion for sailing... his "sunglasses of the heart" firmly on his nose!
His vision of Julbo:
"I always have several pairs on board: sunglasses of the heart in the colors of my charity and technical frames, such as the Wave. The glasses in the Nautic range are perfectly adapted to offshore racing. They protect us from the sun and splashing water so we always have excellent vision whatever the weather. And when you're taking big waves in the face, you can wear goggles with a clear lens. It's the ideal configuration under a hood and with a balaclava. I'm proud to be part of Team Julbo which brings together so many athletes, especially from extreme sports. Sailing is one of them. And I also share the brand's values – sporting, dynamic, close to nature and family-oriented."
Sunglasses and solidarity
In 2013, we customized the favorite sunglasses of Tanguy de Lamotte in the colors of his heart surgery charity. A red Whoops model decorated with a white heart and the added bonus of a check for €12,000 to fund a child's operation. Sunglasses and solidarity!
